President Donald Trump wants the Big Ten football season back on track.

President Donald Trump spoke with the Big Ten office about getting the season going again.

President Trump tweeted that he had a productive conversation with Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren about getting the season started right away and said they’re “on the one-yard line.”

The Big Ten had previously postponed its 2020 college football season due to the coronavirus and concerns about the long-term effects of those who contract the virus, including myocarditis.

The Big Ten presidents were the ones who voted 11-3 to postpone the season and collectively they released a statement after the conversation between Warren and President Trump.

Will President Trump speaking with Kevin Warren give us Big Ten football?

Admittedly, it feels like a last-ditch effort to get the Big Ten back to playing football. The Big Ten is seen as the lynchpin conference regarding the other three of note that decided to not compete this fall in the MAC, the Mountain West and the Pac-12. The other three may remain adamant about not playing, but players, coaches, athletic director and fans want the Big Ten to play.

It was disclosed that the Big Ten university presidents voted 11-3 in favor of postponing the season. The clandestine nature of the vote has been revealed and came before COVID-19 testing advancements.

Since the Big Ten decided to punt on playing this fall, the saliva-based test has been approved by the FDA. It costs 25 times less than the traditional nasal swab test and can be conducted at a much quicker pace. Though it may not be as accurate as the nasal swab test, the saliva test is a total game-changer when it comes to us resuming our everyday lives in the United States.

As for President Trump pushing hard for Big Ten football to turn, there are obviously political ramifications to it as it is with everything in the world today. There are several key swing states in the Midwest that may end up deciding who wins the 2020 Presidential Election. The Midwest helped Trump defeat Hillary Clinton back in 2016 and it may help him hold off Joe Biden.

What is interesting is President Trump isn’t fighting to get Pac-12 football back as feverishly. Again, this is a complicated factor as well. While the Pac-12 players, coaches, athletic directors and fans have pushed even remotely as hard for a return like the Big Ten has, how many red states are in Pac-12 country to begin with? Big Ten football is going to decide the election, isn’t it?

Though getting Big Ten football back would be fantastic, this is a much bigger issue than sports.
