Patrick Mahomes proposed to girlfriend Brittany Matthews after getting his Super Bowl ring

Patrick Mahomes got a ring on Tuesday. So did his girlfriend Brittany Matthews.

The Chiefs quarterback proclaimed it “ring szn” when he posted a picture on Instagram of the ring he’d used to propose to Matthews.

The proposal came just after Mahomes and his Chiefs teammates collected their Super Bowl rings at Arrowhead Stadium.

Mahomes’ Super Bowl ring boasts somewhere in the area of 174 diamonds, but Matthews’ diamond looked like it took the cake for karats.

Mahomes celebrated two major life moments on Tuesday

Matthews, a former soccer player and personal trainer who started dating Mahomes back in high school, posted a photo to her Instagram showing the flower-strewn room at the stadium where Mahomes popped the question. Prominently placed was a lit-up sign reading, “Will you marry me?”

It’s been quite a year for Mahomes. He entered his third year in the pros with heavy expectations stemming from a breakout 2018 campaign when was named the NFL MVP after throwing 50 touchdowns.

In 2019, the stats slowed down but the performances didn’t. Despite missing two weeks with an injured knee, Mahomes led his team to the division title.

In the playoffs, the Chiefs managed to overcome double-digit deficits in each of their victories, including an improbably 24-point comeback against Houston in the first round. Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP with two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown in the title tilt against the 49ers.

Nothing could top bringing the Chiefs their first Super Bowl title since 1969, but the summer also delivered some huge rewards to the quarterback. In July he signed a $503-million contract extension with the Chiefs, locking him in longterm in Kansas City.

Marriage will lock him in longterm with Matthews as well, hopefully, longer than his 10-year deal with the Chiefs.
