Jadeveon Clowney could finally be close to making a decision.

The Jadeveon Clowney sweepstakes continue on as the NFL season is set to begin next Thursday. The New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans have reportedly emerged as favorites.

Clowney’s main concern throughout this entire process has been the money. He has reportedly turned down offers that didn’t meet his asking price, which originally began at $20 million annually.

This has dragged on all summer and it appears Clowney will wait a few more days to make his decision.

Jadeveon Clowney watching roster cuts

Teams will finalize their rosters this weekend and that means money could be freed up to pay Clowney close to what he wants. However, it will be a risk to make certain cuts with the intention of signing Clowney if he has multiple suitors.

Clowney has made it clear he wants to be paid like a superstar and wants to play for a contending team. Both the Saints and Titans fit that description and there are always “mystery” teams in a scenario like this.

There are also certainly offers out there for Clowney if he wanted to take one right now. Advising him to wait could end up backfiring if his number one team decides they don’t want to take part in the waiting game any longer.

This has been a unique process and Clowney getting a multi-year deal gives him financial security during a year when he could get off to a slow start learning a new system.

Getting the money he wants will have made this process all worth it. The team that does sign him just has to hope there aren’t any glaring concerns after he spent the summer not at a training camp.
