Nick Nurse credited Hubie Brown for that last-second buzzer-beater.

The Toronto Raptors left New England in stunned silence last night, as the Boston Celtics allowed the 2019 champs to cut their playoff series lead to 2-1 after Kyle Lowry fired a pinpoint pass to OG Anunoby, who was left wide open near the far left corner of the court. Anunoby drained a 3-pointer with 0.5 seconds left to give Nick Nurse’s squad a victory in the most improbable fashion.

Nurse claimed that former NBA head coach and ESPN analyst Hubie Brown deserves all the credit for that play, as the reigning champion said that he learned that play from one of Brown’s instructional DVDs.

While most younger NBA fans know him as a broadcaster, Brown coached for 13 seasons in the NBA with the Hawks, Knicks, and Grizzlies. At the age of 70 with Memphis, Brown won 50- games for a franchise that never won more than 28 before the 2003-04 season. It’s no wonder that Nurse looked to him for a potential game-winner last night.

Anunoby had just 12 points in 45 minutes last night, but he made them count. If Anunoby’s last-second heave rimmed out, Boston would’ve taken a potentially insurmountable 3-0 lead over the Raptors.

While Toronto earned the No. 2 seed in the East due to their depth around star Pascal Siakam and the steady hand of Kyle Lowry, the star power of the Celtics is presenting problems for the Raptors when they aren’t getting bailed out by incredibly lucky buzzer-beaters. Hopefully, for Toronto, this Game 3 win serves as a turning point.

Nurse need to make sure that Stevens, who had a momentary brain fart near the end of that game, doesn’t get his hands on whatever sagely DVD Nurse learned that inbound play from, or Toronto’s playoff hopes could soon fizzle out.
