Chiefs reshuffle QB depth chart behind Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback depth chart was reshuffled after the team released veteran Matt Moore
The quarterback position is set in Kansas City with Patrick Mahomes leading the Chiefs for the next 12 years maximum. However, as we learned last year, the presence of quality backup depth is essential, especially during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The Chiefs decided to shuffle up their quarterback depth chart, and it includes a player who stepped up when his name was called last season.
On NFL Cut Day on Saturday, the Chiefs released veteran quarterback Matt Moore. While he was released, Herbie Teope of the Kansas City Star reports that the plan is for the Chiefs to bring Moore back, but as a member of their practice squad.
As for Matt Moore's release, I'm told Chiefs plan on bringing him back to practice squad. Remember teams can add up to six veterans with more than four accrued seasons this season. Moore's agent, a KC native, emphasized Moore is fine with the move and wants to be with the Chiefs.

Moore helped lead the Chiefs to the Super Bowl last year
In Week 7 against the rival Denver Broncos, Mahomes went down mid-game after dislocating his kneecap when getting sacked. The injury looked bad enough to cause everyone to think the worst. Fortunately, there was no structural damage, forcing Mahomes to miss two weeks.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid called upon Moore, whom the team signed late in the preseason after Henne went down with an ankle injury, to start under center. And Moore performed well above expectations. Kansas City lost their Week 8 game against the Green Bay Packers, but won the following week against the Minnesota Vikings. In those two contests, Moore completed 49-of-71 pass attempts for 542 yards and three touchdowns.
Moore re-signed with the Chiefs back in July, looking to win the backup role behind Mahomes, but had to contend with Henne. Unfortunately for Moore, Henne won the job back on Aug. 16, leaving his status on the team in flux along with Jordan Ta’amu, former quarterback for the XFL’s St. Louis BattleHawks.

Even with Moore expected to join the practice squad, the Chiefs will open up their season against the Houston Texans with two active quarterbacks.
