Fernando Tatis Jr. continued his great season Sunday with a big home run.

Fernando Tatis Jr. is only 21 years old and has already emerged as a young star in the game of baseball. He has helped lead the San Diego Padres to a 25-17 record so far this season and has done so with style.

Tatis continued his great season Sunday by sending another baseball into the stands. That gave him 15 home runs on the year, tying him with Mike Trout for the lead in MLB.

Fernando Tatis Jr. is the real deal

Tatis’ latest homer came in the top of the seventh inning of Sunday’s game against the Oakland Athletics. This pushed the lead from 3-2 to 5-2 and that was enough of a cushion for the Padres pitchers to seal the victory.

The young shortstop only made his MLB debut in 2019 and he played in a total of 84 games. He now looks like a superstar through 41 games in 2020 and his 39 RBIs have him one behind Jose Abreu for the tops in the league. Mike Trout is one back of Tatis with 38.

Competing with Trout in any category is a great sign. The sample size is small for Tatis this season, but this is no fluke. He slashed .317/.379/.590 in limited action last season and proved he was a budding star. This is a good time to remind baseball fans the Chicago White Sox traded Tatis to the Padres in exchange for James Shields. Too soon?

The end of the regular season is in three weeks and it looks like the Padres will be making a return to the postseason for the first time since 2006. A few Tatis home runs in October would not be a surprise.
