Baylor and Louisiana Tech have had their game this weekend postponed.

The Big 12 will get play underway this weekend and the conference features its teams playing non-conference games to start the year. TCU and Oklahoma State has already seen its opener against canceled due to COVID-19.

Baylor will join their two conference foes in staying home this weekend with a new report that the Bears will not play Louisiana Tech due to an outbreak of COVID-19 within the Bulldogs program.

Baylor playing it safe with coronavirus

The state of Louisiana had to prepare for Hurricane Laura and thus players from Tech were sent home. That was an obvious problem, but there was no other choice. Testing properly and reporting the results was important and postponing the game is a good move.

The Bulldogs were set to travel to Waco and that alone would have been a disaster. That is true if even one person is sick with the virus.

This marked Baylor’s only non-conference game on the schedule as the Big 12 will jump right into conference play in the second week of games. There are several open slots on the schedule as well that will allow for makeup games such as this one.

Not having bubbles in place will always present a problem. But to be fair to Louisiana Tech, a ton of precautions were wiped away when it came time to evacuate due to a hurricane. That is a unique situation, but still one for other teams to learn from if a player needs to leave a school for any amount of time.

This will still be disappointing news for the players and fans of both programs. That is just how the 2020 season will go for teams lucky enough to be playing at all.
