Padres vs. Giants game postponed for positive COVID-19 test
Friday night’s Padres vs. Giants game was postponed because of a positive COVID-19 test.
The San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants were on the field and ready to play a game on Friday night in San Diego. Then they weren’t.
The game was postponed just before the first pitch was scheduled to take place at 6:10 p.m. Pacific time.
The two teams left the field while the Padres tweeted that additional information on the postponement would be given.
Bob Nightingale of USA Today beat them to the punch, reporting that a positive COVID-19 test caused the game to be abandoned.
The Padres vs. Giants game was postponed because of the first positive COVID-19 test in nearly two weeks.
Funnily enough, it was Nightengale who tweeted earlier on Friday about how the MLB had gone 12 consecutive days with no positive COVID-19 tests. He jinxed it apparently.
The game was set to feature the NL West’s second and third place teams squaring off with some playoff implications. The third-place Giants are half a game out of the wild card.
