Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Fighting Irish.

It’s been a busy Saturday for Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly. Not only is the veteran coach in the middle of a battle against the Duke Blue Devils, but some breaking news has arrived that will surely fire up the Fighting Irish fans.

That’s because the school has announced that Kelly and Notre Dame have agreed to a three-year contract extension, keeping him in South Bend through at least the 2024 season. Kelly’s original deal was set to run through 2021, but things changed in a giant way this weekend. Stadium’s Brett McMurphy reported the new deal for Kelly.

Brian Kelly is now in his 11th season as the head coach for Notre Dame

Kelly has been with Notre Dame since 2010, joining the Fighting Irish after four seasons at Cincinnati. Since landing with Notre Dame, Kelly has posted a 92-37 record in 129 games (not including Saturday’s season-opener against the Duke Blue Devils).

Back in 2013, Kelly helped guide Notre Dame to the BCS National Championship Game against Alabama, but unfortunately for Irish fans, the team lost 42-14. In 2018, Notre Dame enjoyed a remarkable season and booked a trip to the College Football Playoff. However, they suffered a rough 30-3 defeat at the hands of Trevor Lawrence and the Clemson Tigers.

In 2020, Kelly and Notre Dame will be looking to get some revenge on Clemson, as they’ve joined the ACC for its 10-game conference schedule. The two teams will take the field in a monster showdown come Nov. 7. When they do meet, Kelly will be locked in with Notre Dame through 2024, while Dabo Swinney has his deal with Clemson until 2028.
