Notre Dame football games will practice social distance with a limited crowd but some Fighting Irish fans weren’t complying and were shamed for it.

Like most colleges and most NFL teams, Notre Dame has employed a limited capacity crowd at Notre Dame Stadium this season to abide by COVID-19 safety protocols.

While it’s a good practice, it’s proven to be tough to enforce before the Fighting Irish could even complete their season-opener vs. Duke.

Notre Dame didn’t always look real crisp vs. Duke, Ian Book had some struggles, the skill players had theirs too and the fundamentals on defense could be tightened up. It was the first game of the year so I’m not going to be overly critical of the on-field product.

However, Notre Dame football fans in attendance didn’t get the benefit of the doubt because of their inability to follow the social distancing guidelines. At one point during the game, a select group of fans were shown on the jumbotron and publicly shamed for not doing their part to keep everyone safe.

As you can see in the photo below, at least five of the six were wearing their masks properly with the one fan not properly covering up their nose.

They’ll have to go back to the tape and make sure they make the corrections to be better for the next opportunity. They won’t make those mistakes again.

While the rules in place are great, it’s going to be tough to enforce all season, because college kids are going to be college kids after all. And this doesn’t even apply to college kids as we’ve seen the several viral videos and photos and tweets of people outright refusing to wear masks or socially-distance because they just don’t want to.
