Spencer Rattler is proving he’s the next great Oklahoma football quarterback.

In his first start, Spencer Rattler is giving it to an overmatched Missouri State football team.

The new starting quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners seems to be the heir apparent for the position he plays. With greats like Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts before him, Rattler’s coronation as the next Boomer Sooner superstar was underway in a hurry vs. Bobby Petrino’s hapless Missouri State Bears. He threw three touchdowns before an incompletion.

The first one was an absolute dime.

The second one was another dime as Rattler shows perfect touch on his ball.

Rattler didn’t have to do the heavy-lifting on this one but he still gets the credit.

Spencer Rattler may challenge Trevor Lawrence for the 2020 Heisman Trophy.

Rattler first connected on a deep play-action pass to wide receiver Marvin Mims for six. He did a marvelous job looking off the Missouri State safety for the 58-yard aerial strike. After the freshman-to-freshman connection, Rattler found upperclassmen Charleston Rambo for 53 yards to pay dirt. His third touchdown was a glorified check down to Seth McGowan for 37 yards.

Admittedly, there was a ton of hype surrounding the former five-star recruit from the Greater Phoenix Area. Most top high school prospects don’t live up to it right away, but Rattler is certainly bucking the trend. Though he is a redshirt freshman, he’s proving to us that he is more than capable of leading Oklahoma to another Big 12 title and College Football Playoff berth.

Of course, the Sooners’ nine remaining games will be against Big 12 competition. Even the bottom-feeding Kansas Jayhawks will theoretically put up a more substantial threat than Petrino’s Missouri State team. However, Rattler is playing with a ton of confidence and that has to make his head coach Lincoln Riley extremely happy naming him the Week 1 starter like he had a choice.

Rattler has shown us he 100 percent was worth the hype coming out of high school.
