Manchester United prepared to reverse transfer plans on Jadon Sancho
Manchester United wanted to buy Jadon Sancho to solidify their attack for years to come. Now they’re prepared to buy an aging star to help them right away.
Jadon Sancho has been Manchester United’s top transfer target for the majority of the summer. It now seems that officials at Old Trafford are ready to believe that Borussia Dortmund aren’t ready to part with the English starlet. That’s forced United to reevaluate their summer transfer plans in a major way.
Per The Express, United now plan to turn their transfer attention towards Real Madrid outcast Gareth Bale. The former Tottenham star has been completely frozen out of the La Liga giant’s squad by manager Zinedine Zidane. Previously, the sheer cost associated with acquiring Bale has made arranging a transfer for him impossible.
Real Madrid are now so desperate to offload the 31-year-old Welshman that they’re willing to cover over half of his current salary just to get him off their books moving forward. The Spanish giants would like to receive a transfer fee in the neighborhood of £20 million to help soothe their financial pain, but even that should be very flexible in today’s financial environment.
The question United must ask is whether or not Bale is the player who can put them over the top immediately. Otherwise, investing such a premium in a player of his age doesn’t make sense. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is building a brilliant young attack. Adding an aging, and mercurial star like Bale to the mix could upset the delicate balance of his young squad.
The alternative theory of that Bale returning to the Premier League might energize him to regain the electric form that made him a global superstar in the first place. If he can capture a significant portion of the form that made him a club legend for Spurs, he could give United just the boost they require to challenge the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City for a Premier League title this season. If he can do that, he’ll be worth every penny to the higher-ups at Old Trafford.
The odds remain stacked against Manchester United making such a big move. The club will likely choose to keep their transfer cash secure until a later date. Dortmund will struggle to keep Sancho forever. He’ll likely return to England at some point in the near future. Buying Bale now might prevent United from securing their long-term target when the time is right. United fans shouldn’t get their hopes up.
