DraftKings fantasy golf picks and lineups for the 2020 U.S. Open from Winged Foot Golf Club.

Famed Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, NY will play host to the 2020 U.S. Open this week, the first major championship of the 2020-21 golf season, a year that will now feature six majors after all four were postponed due to COVID-19 last year. Thus, that means six opportunities for DraftKings fantasy golf players to make their picks with big stakes on the line.

Playing DFS fantasy golf for an event like the U.S. Open is a different beast than most given weeks throughout the season. While there’s a full field available for picking on DraftKings, there is virtually no one among the best golfers in the world who won’t be teeing it up — though Brooks Koepka (injury) and Scottie Scheffler (positive COVID test) have withdrawn.

Due to the strength of the field, there is tremendous value to be had in the mid-tiers on DraftKings. But at the same time, it’s rare for a golfer not among the top players in the world to not win the U.S. Open. Last year, Gary Woodland was an 80-1 favorite and a bit of a shocker in getting the victory.

That point is exacerbated at a place like Winged Foot. Having hosted five previous U.S. Open tournaments, only one of those events produced a winning score under par. The last one in 2006, won by Geoff Ogilvy, saw the Australian capture the victory a 5-over. Birdies are at a premium and par is a good score — this major, especially at this course, is about survival of the fittest.

So how do DraftKings fantasy golf players attack a tournament like the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot with it’s legendarily thick rough, bearish greens and narrow fairways? That’s what we’re going to look at today. We’re going through every pricing tier and looking at every option, most good and some to fade, before building some possible lineups.

We start in the $10,000 range.
