The Dallas Cowboys’ top receiver is dealing with an ailment, but he should be good to go for the team’s home opener on Sunday.

The very first week of the 2020 NFL season wasn’t too kind to the Dallas Cowboys. Not only were they reeling from the controversial offensive pass interference call that cost them the game against the Los Angeles Rams, but they had to deal with a multitude of injuries. Starting tight end Blake Jarwin is done for the season after tearing his ACL, linebacker Leighton Vander Esch broke his collarbone, and Sean Lee is out six weeks with a groin injury. On Thursday, Cowboys fans were dealt a scare.

Wide receiver Amari Cooper was listed on the team’s injury report on Thursday with a foot injury, which limited him in practice. Despite that, Cooper is still expected to play in the team’s home opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Cooper has dealt with injury woes dating back to last season

The Cowboys acquired Cooper at the trade deadline of the 2018 season, which helped turn the team’s luck around and clinch the NFC East title. In 2019, Cooper played in every game of the campaign, but he pulled numerous disappearing acts throughout. Despite that, the Cowboys gave Cooper a $100 million contract at the start of the new league year.

During the team’s season opener against the Rams, Cooper was targeted 14 times by quarterback Dak Prescott, and he recorded 10 receptions for 81 yards.

Luckily for Cowboys fans, Cooper will play barring a setback later this week. Having Cooper on the field will be crucial if Dallas wants to earn their first win of the season, because they’re playing a Falcons defense that surrendered 322 passing yards and four touchdowns to Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson last week. You can expect Dallas’ offense will thrive against Atlanta on Sunday, but they will likely have to out-duel Matt Ryan, who threw for 450 yards in Week 1.
