Saquon Barkley gets hurt in New York Giants’ game
Another NFL star is hurting as Saquon Barkley had to be helped to the sidelines.
This has been a bad day for the NFL on the injury front as New York Giants’ star running back Saquon Barkley is the latest player to go down with an injury. Barkley went down awkwardly on a carry early in the second quarter grabbing at his right knee.
The cart did not need to come out for Barkley, but he was nonetheless helped to the sidelines as the Giants are driving down 10-0 to the Chicago Bears. Barkley’s loss would be a massive one for the Giants since he is clearly their best offensive player and it would be a soul crusher for fantasy football owners as well.
Dion Lewis would be the next man up for the Giants in the backfield if Barkley is out for an extended period of time. The only other running back on the roster is Wayne Gallman, who is inactive today.
Without Barkley, the Giants are going to rely even more on second-year quarterback Daniel Jones. Jones is struggling once more with turnovers. After fumbling 18 times last year, he’s yet to do so in 2020 but has already thrown three interceptions, including one on Sunday in the first half against Chicago.
The Giants are already 0-1 in the Joe Judge era and things have gone from relatively bad to atrocious with Barkley’s knee injury. Perhaps New York and its biggest star catch a break, but if Barkley is out for any real amount of time, it’s tough to see the Giants competing for anything other than the No. 1 overall pick come 2021.
