Tyreek Hill seemed to get away with an obvious penalty.

The Kansas City Chiefs offense was not doing much of anything throughout the first three quarters of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Then Patrick Mahomes woke up in the fourth quarter with a beautiful 54-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill. The speedy receiver fell down on the play, but went untouched and rolled into the end zone for the score. He then took his helmet off and Chiefs fans may have been awaiting the penalty flag. It never came.

Hill gets away with one

This no-call was a big one because the score put the Chiefs down by a score of 17-15. A two-point conversion followed and Mahomes delivered once again. However, calling the penalty would have pushed the ball back 15 yards and would have made the try incredibly difficult. The Chiefs likely would have been forced to kick.

The officiating has been a bit suspect so far through two weeks of the 2020 season. There has been a huge decrease in holding calls and some obvious calls are being missed. The Chargers may have a word with the league office about this one with Hill. If him doing this is not a penalty, how is the rule ever applied?

One explanation in Hill’s defense is that his helmet was coming off and he removed it to avoid having it smash his face. This doesn’t look to be the case given the video, but it seems like the only logical way for the flag to stay in the referee’s pocket.

Great teams like the Chiefs always find some extra luck. In this case, the luck may just be a blown call.
