The Seattle Seahawks defense continues to get bitten by the injury bug, with the latest coming on Sunday night.

On Sunday night, the Seattle Seahawks managed to squeak out the 38-35 victory over the New England Patriots. While everyone’s attention was focused on the tremendous NFL quarterback battle between Russell Wilson and Cam Newton, what might’ve been forgotten was that Seattle’s secondary was destroyed with injuries. Less than 24 hours after the contest, a Seahawks defensive back is lost for the season.

NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reports that Seahawks nickelback Marquise Blair is done for the 2020 campaign, as he’s set to undergo surgery on his right ACL. This comes following the announcement that edge rusher Bruce Irvin is done for the season with a torn ACL as well.

Seahawks defense is in trouble

The injury to Blair happened in the second quarter of Sunday’s primetime game, as teammate and Seahawks linebacker K.J. Wright accidentally collided with Blair’s right knee, causing it to bend in an uncomfortable fashion. Blair was ruled out for the remainder of the game rather quickly. Now, his season is over.

Blair had shined during the team’s season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, as he recorded seven total tackles and one forced fumble. In the Patriots game, Blair managed to tally two tackles before leaving the game prematurely. In coverage, Blair has allowed six catches on seven targets for 89 yards and zero touchdowns, per Pro Football Reference.

With Blair done for the season, head coach Pete Carroll revealed that Ugo Amadi will be the team’s nickelback moving forward. Amadi recorded eight tackles (one for loss) and one pass deflection in his relief work.

Given the two season-ending blows the Seahawks defense has suffered in a single day, one can only wonder if the team will bring in some free agents. Given that they’re looking to contend for the Super Bowl this season, you’d have to think that’s a route they will take to ensure that goal becomes a reality.
