Notre Dame canceled football practice on Tuesday after four positive COVID-19 tests among players resulted in six more student-athletes were quarantined.

Notre Dame football practice was canceled for Tuesday as the Fighting Irish prepare to take on Wake Forest on Saturday.

The cancelation comes on the heels of four positive COVID-19 tests taken last week among football players resulted in six being quarantined due to contact tracing.

This is going to be an ongoing concern all season and players will be made unavailable on short notice ahead of games and some teams may not have the full accompaniment of their starting lineup for crucial games.

Notre Dame had late scratches ahead of Saturday’s blowout win over USF, for undisclosed reasons, but make of that what you will that saw TaRiq BracyBrendon ClarkMarist LiufauOvie Oghoufo, Shayne Simon, and Jahmir Smith unable to play.

Notre Dame cancels football practice after a round of COVID-19 testing

Missing a practice early in the week is a concern for Brian Kelly and his team, but if they are able to practice on Wednesday, it should be enough time to install the gameplan for the Demon Deacons on Saturday. Practices later in the week aren’t as physical as the ones early in the week, but still, as long as Notre Dame can get back on the field without interruption, they should be well-prepared to beat Wake Forest and improve to 3-0 on the early season.

Notre Dame is not alone in this as more than a dozen football games have already been canceled or postponed due to COVID-19, and that comes on the heels of the season starting later than usual and the SEC and Big Ten haven’t started their seasons yet.

It’s why the Big Ten, Pac-12, MAC and Mountain West postponed their seasons initially and why the latter three still haven’t committed to returning to play.
