Vin Scully wished a happy 93rd birthday to Tommy Lasorda.

Following the death of St. Louis Cardinals legend Red Schoendiesnt, former Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda became the oldest living MLB Hall of Famer. His advanced age has done little to diminish his passion for the Dodgers and the game, as he remains as spry as ever on his 93rd birthday.

Dodgers immortal Vin Scully wished Lasorda a happy birthday on his brand new Twitter account, punctuating his kind wishes with an anecdote about Lasorda’s drive and determination as a player in Dodgers spring training.

Tommy Lasorda remains Dodger royalty for his contributions as manager

The Hall of Famer has been on the Dodgers’ payroll since 1954. Lasorda had a few cups of coffee as a pitcher when Scully was calling Dodger games in Brooklyn, but he soon transitioned into a role as a scout and, later, a manager in the minors before being promoted to the MLB level in 1976.

Lasorda won four NL Pennants in his two-decade stint as the main man in LA, winning 1,599 games and taking home two World Series championships. Lasorda remains fourth on the all-time list in terms of playoff games coached. Lasorda retired from managing in 1996, but he soon found a home in the front office as vice president. He remains employed by the Dodgers as a special advisor to the chairman.

A bombastic, outspoken coach who managed to blend the old-school mentality with many of the newer facets that cropped up over his decades in the game, Lasorda helped keep the Dodgers relevant in LA by building them into a consistent winner. Lasorda is one of the most unique and passionate baseball minds the game has ever seen, and even the great Scully can only do so much justice to his Hall of Fame career.
