Colin Kaepernick called for the police to be abolished after the Breonna Taylor ruling.

Colin Kaepernick is a household name after becoming a leading voice for the Black Lives Matter movement in sports.

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise he was one of the most outspoken athletes in the wake of Wednesday’s grand jury ruling regarding the Breonna Taylor case.

“The white supremacist institution of policing that stole Breonna Taylor’s life from us must be abolished for the safety and well being of our people,” Kaepernick wrote on Twitter.

Colin Kaepernick didn’t mince words in the wake of the Breonna Taylor ruling.

On Wednesday, a Kentucky grand jury opted to bring no charges against the police officers who shot and killed Breonna Taylor during a botched drug raid in March. One officer was charged with three counts of wanton enganderment for firing his weapon into a neighbor’s residence, but there were no charges related to the emergency medical technician’s death.

Taylor’s story sparked outrage across the country and her name has become a rallying cry for the Black Lives Matter movement.

In sports, Taylor has been used as a symbol to protest racial injustice. Lebron James wore a hat calling for the officers involved in her death to be arrested. The WNBA honored Taylor with a special jersey design. Tennis star Naomi Osaka wore a mask with her name during a tournament.

The stance by Kaepernick went a step further politicallly by more controversially calling for the abolishment of the police.

Kaepernick is still awaiting his chance to return to the NFL, though no team has yet to bring him in. Multipe suitors considered the option this offseason apparently, but the only place the former quarterback is throwing passes is in this year’s edition of EA’s Madden game.
