This might seem like an odd decision to go in on the San Francisco 49ers the same week they lose Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas for the season, but they are facing a New York Giants team that just lost its best offensive weapon and maybe its second-best weapon.
Daniel Jones will be shell-shocked to start the game, and the 49ers could gameplan him into multiple turnovers. One turnover going the other way makes this play worth it.
The Giants are talking about pulling running backs off the street after Barkley’s injury. This won’t end up well for the first week. It could also lead to fumbles, especially if Devonta Freeman is the number-one choice for Joe Judge and company. It might be a turnover fest as both teams are decimated by injuries.

The 49ers will be motivated to leave MetLife Stadium with wins. The defense could be extra motivated after some questions surround their ceiling in a year after losing in the Super Bowl.
