T.Y. Hilton’s grandmother tried to motivate him after a poor start.

The Indianapolis Colts have gotten off to a respectable 1-1 start to the season, but wide receiver T.Y. Hilton hasn’t had much to write home about through two games against the Jaguars and Vikings. Hilton’s self-professed biggest fan finally got a hold of him, and her words of encouragement might help him get back in control on offense.

Ahead of a favorable matchup against a New York Jets team that continues to sink into the quicksand, Hilton claims that he had a quick chat with his grandmother, who held him accountable for his poor statistical start to the season. Now re-energized after his talking-to from Grandma, Hilton appears ready to return to the form that helped him reach the Pro Bowl four times.

TY Hilton has yet to get into a groove with Philip Rivers

Hilton and Philip Rivers have yet to totally find a rhythm, as Hilton has recorded just seven catches in two weeks while being kept out of the end zone. Considering the lack of a full preseason and the fact Hilton is on his third different quarterback in three seasons, some of that sluggishness and poor timing with Rivers is understandable.

Supporting cast members around Hilton are dropping like flies. Not only is Mo Alie-Cox, a former power forward at VCU, currently the starting tight end, but running back Marlon Mack is out for 2020 with an Achilles tear and wide receiver Parris Campbell is expected to miss some time. All of this leads to more targets for Hilton.

Frank Reich can scheme up whatever kind of play he wants, but nothing can match a good, old-fashioned pep talk from Grandma. If Hilton balls out against the Jets, we’ll have a clear answer as to why.
