Fantasy Football: Week 3 rest of season rankings
By Ben Grivas
Quarterbacks 1-25
I wrote an article this offseason about trends of
early, middle, and late round QBs
, and despite finding that middle round QBs are usually a wasted pick, I concluded that I would still draft them this year. Why? Because
Dak Prescott, Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray,
Deshaun Watsonand
Josh Allenare all rushing quarterbacks, which means that they have a much lower bust rate. I’m glad that I’ve been proven right so far, as the top of my rankings sheet is very similar to my preseason rankings. The exception is Watson, who seems to have fallen off more than I anticipated from the loss of Deandre Hopkins, but there’s still time for him to turn it around.
The biggest riser in my quarterback rankings is former MVP Cam Newton, the free agent that many teams are kicking themselves for not signing before the Pats got to him. He’s looking like his old self, slinging lasers and running over defenders at the goalline. Another rushing QB, Gardner Minshew, also rose in my rankings after getting into a surprise shootout with the Titans. If you haven’t understood this wild concept yet, just remember this: rushing QBs are a cheat code in fantasy football.
My favorite sleeper QB on the waiver wire? Chargers rookie Justin Herbert, who put up 23.2 fantasy points in an impressive surprise debut against the Chiefs. He gets the Panthers, Jets, Dolphins, and Jaguars within the next 6 weeks, all games where he could be a viable fantasy starter. That is, if coach Anthony Lynn will let him.
