The third week of the 2020 NFL season kicks off on Thursday night, as the 1-1 Jacksonville Jaguars host the 0-2 Miami Dolphins. While the game isn’t exactly the most enticing on paper, quarterbacks Gardner Minshew and Ryan Fitzpatrick sold it by turning the game into the battle of facial hair. Beard versus mustache. Jacksonville was expected to be one of the worst team in the league, but that’s not in the mindset of Minshew. He’s heard the talk of Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence donning a Jaguars uniform next year, and he’s used it as motivation. Minshew Mania has run wild in the first two weeks of the season, as he led the Jaguars to an upset victory over the Indianapolis Colts and took the Tennessee Titans to overtime. Minshew has completed 75.4-percent of his passes for 512 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions.

Minshew faces a favorable matchup against a Dolphins pass defense that has allowed 551 yards and four touchdowns, while forcing zero interceptions. Additionally, the Dolphins will be without star cornerback Byron Jones with groin and Achilles injuries. But, Minshew won’t have wide receiver DJ Chark suited up, as he’s sidelined with chest and back ailments.

As for Fitzpatrick, he’s completed 66.2-percent of his passes for 519 yards, two touchdowns and three interception, where all picks came in Week 1 against the New England Patriots. But he does face a Jaguars pass defense that’s no better than Miami’s. Jacksonville has allowed 588 yards and five touchdowns, while forcing two interceptions. Fitzpatrick will likely look to continue the rapport he built up with tight end Mike Gesicki last week, who hauled in 8-of-11 targets for 130 yards and one touchdown.
