Former Clemson All-American Isaiah Simmons called out LSU following their loss to Mississippi State on Saturday. It backfired in a big way.

Saturday was a big day of upsets in the college football world. First, the third-ranked Oklahoma Sooners blew a 35-14 lead to the short-handed Kansas State Wildcats. Then, the No. 6 LSU Tigers lost 44-34 to the unranked Mississippi State Bulldogs, thanks to the 623-yard performance from quarterback K.J. Costello. This was the first game without a majority of their National Championship-winning team, and leading to some trolling on social media.

Following LSU’s defeat, former Clemson linebacker/safety hybrid Isaiah Simmons sent out a vague and since-deleted tweet that read “one hit wonder.” That caught the ire of many LSU fans, who knew that those three words were in reference to their beloved Tigers.

Not only were fans peeved, but so were members of the 2019 National Championship team who happened to defeat Clemson 42-25 this past January. Former edge rusher and current Jacksonville Jaguar K’Lavon Chaisson happily reminded him of that. In fact, quarterback Joe Burrow retweeted that message to let his followers know of Simmons’ shot!

Chaisson wasn’t the only member of last season’s LSU defense to go after the first-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals. Linebacker and current Baltimore Raven Patrick Queen reminded Simmons that LSU beat their butt’s (in PG terms). Not only that, but Queen called out Simmons for deleting his tweet after getting bombarded by LSU alum across the globe.

Even his current Cardinals teammate didn’t want to hear it either. Rashard Lawrence, a former nose tackle for LSU, told Simmons, “not now.”

In the aforementioned National Championship Game, Simmons tallied seven total tackles (two for loss), two passes defensed and one sacks. However, Clemson’s defense just couldn’t stop the Burrow-led offense, who threw for 463 yards and five touchdowns in the win.

When it comes to Twitter, sometimes it’s best to type out your tweet and don’t hit send immediately. Read it over a couple of times and then determine whether it’s worth dealing with the backlash. Simmons realized this a bit too late and opted to delete the tweets altogether. But as everyone knows, screenshots live forever.
