College GameDay will be heading to Athens for the Week 5 matchup between Georgia and Auburn.

It’s Georgia. It’s Auburn. It’s a Top 10 matchup on College GameDay in Week 5.

ESPN’s iconic pregame show will be in Athens next week to broadcast the juicy SEC matchup.

Surprisingly, this is just the second time College GameDay will set up shop at the Auburn-Georgia game, according to Tom Green of AI.com.

College GameDay is ready for a Top 10 SEC battle.

It’s a good thing Georgia was able to find their feet after a rough start against Arkansas. The Bulldogs were able to pull away for the 37-10 win, certainly preserving their Top 5 status going into the coming matchup.

No. 8 Auburn also had a bit of trouble with No. 23 Kentucky on Saturday. They led 8-7 at the half and 15-13 going into the fourth quarter. Then quarterback Bo Nix tossed a pair of touchdown passes to secure a 29-13 victory.

Thanks to the resiliency of both teams, the college football world gets to witness a matchup worthy of the GameDay treatment.

The other option for GameDay might have been Alabama against Texas A&M, who saw off Vanderbilt, 17-12, in their season opener. The Tide had a much easier time dispatching Missouri, 38-19. That game will be on CBS though, simplifying ESPN’s decision-making process.

Georgia has won the last three matchups against Auburn, including an SEC Championship game triumph in 2017. Last year, the Tigers hosted the Bulldogs but lost 21-14.

Auburn hasn’t won in Athens since 2005 when a wild fourth quarter included four lead changes. John Vaughn nailed a 20-yard field goal with six seconds remaining to put the Tigers ahead for good, knocking off the No. 9 Bulldogs.
