NFL DFS Bargain Bin: Week 3 Sunday Slates Quarterbacks

Mitchell Trubisky, CHI at ATL ($5,700-DK/$7,500-FD)

Trubisky may not necessarily be the first name that comes to mind as “safe”, as the Bears quarterback has a well-earned reputation for underwhelming from both a real-world and fantasy perspective at times while dragging down his own upside (and lineups) with turnovers. However, the combination of the fourth-year QB’s price and matchup in Week 3 certainly make him worthy of consideration. Arguably, so does his body of work thus far, as he’s posted 24.3 and 15.2 FD points in his first two weeks and brings a rushing component to the table that can help make up for his occasional shortfalls through the air.

Then, consider the Falcons have already been eviscerated by the first two QBs they’ve faced in the Seahawks’ Russell Wilson and the Cowboys’ Dak Prescott. Trubisky is nowhere near the caliber of the two as a pure passer, but he is yet another very mobile signal-caller that can buy himself time to make some plays downfield versus a defense that’s allowed the most FD points (35.8) per game to QBs over the first two weeks, along with a league-high three rushing TDs to the position.

Another factor worth noting in Trubisky’s favor is that he actually slots into the top 10 with 7.2 average completed air yards and 9.5 average intended air yards per attempt, while the Falcons are surrendering the third-most points per drive (3.4) through their first two games.

Dwayne Haskins, WAS at CLE ($5,200- DK/$6,600-FD)

Haskins offers you even more savings than Trubisky and has been solid during his first two games, playing mistake-free ball through the air while helping lead an upset of the Eagles in Week 1 and throwing for 223 yards and a touchdown in the Week 2 loss against a tough Cardinals defense. The second-year quarterback could be set to up his numbers yet again in Week 3, considering the Browns arrive allowing a 66.7 percent completion rate over the first two weeks, along with the third-most FD points per game (26.2) to QBs after having faced Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow.

It’s also worth noting Cleveland has been strong against the run thus far — they’ve allowed the third-fewest rushing yards (117) to running backs and done so at a minuscule 3.2 yards per carry. Therefore, this could be a game in which Haskins eventually turns to the air more frequently than his 31- and 33-attempt efforts in Weeks 1 and 2. With Terry McLaurin, Logan Thomas and the versatile Antonio Gibson at his disposal even if Steven Sims (toe) is out, Haskins could offer a strong return on a very reasonable salary, particularly if game script eventually funnels things toward the pass.
