6. Dillon Gabriel, QB, UCF

With the return of the SEC in Week 4 and with a couple of high-profile ACC matchups on the docket as well, there weren’t a ton of people paying close attention to the UCF Knights taking on East Carolina. That’s fine but it shouldn’t diminish the fact that sophomore quarterback Dillon Gabriel continued to look like the real deal after a big debut a week ago.

Against ECU on Saturday, Gabriel completed 32 of his 47 passes for 408 yards and four touchdowns with no turnovers. In just two games now, the Hawaii native now has over 800 yards passing with eight touchdowns and only one pick. If he and the Knights keep on displaying this dominant form, he could be a viable awards candidate out of the Group of 5.

5. D’Eriq King, QB, Miami

It would appear that the Miami Hurricanes are on a mission to leave no doubt that they are a legitimate contender in the 2020 season. After ousting Louisville in a huge game last week, they went into a rivalry matchup in Week 4 against Florida State and beat the brakes off the Seminoles. And once again, quarterback D’Eriq King was at the heart of their efforts with another impressive outing.

The diminutive Houston transfer went 29-of-40 for 267 yards and two touchdowns through the air but showed off his dual-threat ability in a big way too, leading the Canes in rushing with eight carries for 65 yards on the night. King now has seven total touchdowns and over 800 total yards in three dominant victories for a resurgent Miami team. That’s a narrative that could land him in Heisman finalist territory if he stays the course.
