It’s a tad controversial to consider benching Dwayne Haskins, but his four turnovers were the biggest reason the Washington Football Team couldn’t beat the Cleveland Browns on the road in Week 3. He completed 21-of-37 passes for 224 yards, two touchdowns, three interceptions and a lost fumble. The Browns were beatable on Sunday, but Haskins beat Washington for them.

After a Week 1 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington has dropped its last two games and is no longer looking like a dark horse playoff team out of the NFC East. Though the division is terrible, Washington has the talent defensively, or so we thought, to push for .500 and maybe sneak in as the third Wild Card team or something. Now, will they even win six games this year?

Washington has two capable starters backing up Haskins in Kyle Allen and Alex Smith. Though Smith may not play this season, or ever again, he wouldn’t be this inherently reckless with the football like Haskins has been. With Allen, he is head coach Ron Rivera‘s guy from their time together on the Carolina Panthers. There may be a greater level of trust in him than Haskins.

What this really comes down to is this. Washington has to win one way and that way does not involve having its first-round pick at quarterback from two years ago turn the football over at will. The team doesn’t have enough talent on offense just yet to keep pace with top-half offenses in the league. Rivera may not bench Haskins, but you best believe his leash on him is getting tighter.
