Eagles announcer sounds ready to cry during overtime disaster (Video)

Nobody captured the Eagles overtime meltdown better than play-by-play announcer Merrill Reese.
Please get the Philadelphia Eagles off of our television. Get them out of print, block them on social media, and put them in an indefinite timeout. Few supposedly good teams have exposed themselves as actually bad more prominently than the Eagles, and Sunday’s overtime meltdown was the final straw.
The Eagles had one job, to beat the winless Cincinnati Bengals and rookie quarterback Joe Burrow. While Burrow has been capturing everyone’s attention with his solid play through the first three starts of the season, those starts are also the first three of his career. A team like the Eagles — one with Super Bowl aspirations — should be able to handle a rookie quarterback at home.
That’s the exact opposite of what Philly did. In fact, they didn’t even screw up bad enough to lose the game, rather Matt Pryor’s boneheaded penalty late in overtime forced a tie and pushed the Eagles into football purgatory.
Philadelphia was set up for a game-winning field goal — one that was already a long shot as it stood — when Pryor false started and the Eagles were pushed further away from a potential win and deeper into whatever pit in hell they’ve been cast.
Merrill Reese has seen a lot of Eagles football in his years as a play-by-play announcer, but the overtime penalty put him over the edge.
That’s every Eagles fan personified in a single voice. It’s the sound of a thousand fans screaming helplessly into the void of this season, knowing that there are still 13 more games that need to be played before this season mercifully comes to an end.
Philadelphia’s season gets no easier after their disaster against the Bengals. Philly gets the 49ers, Steelers, and Ravens up next in a gauntlet that will surely result in the team starting this season 0-6 — not exactly what you’re looking for.
Stranger things have happened, and they’ve happened in Philly, but this is looking like a lost season where more soul searching than ever will be needed this offseason to figure out what the future holds.
