Mike Norvell to coach Florida State football Week 5 after missing a game.

Though Mike Norvell can coach Florida State football in Week 5, are we sure that’s a good thing?

The Florida State Seminoles are arguably the worst team in the ACC at 0-2. They lost in embarrassing fashion at home a few weeks ago to Geoff Collins’ rebuilding Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. During their bye week, Norvell contracted the coronavirus and had to quarantine. Last week saw the ‘Noles get boat raced by the in-state rival Miami Hurricanes down in Hard Rock.

If Florida State can’t defeat Jacksonville State, then Norvell needs to go.

Even though Florida State may only win a few games this year (maybe), if the Seminoles lose at home to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks to fall to 0-3, they’ll need kick Norvell to the curb and get a new head coach. There has never been a blue-blood facing more pressure to beat an FCS opponent at home than Florida State. The fact I’m even suggesting this loss says everything.

Should Florida State give another embarrassing effort on Saturday, the university and athletic department can’t afford to can him. Not in this economy, and probably not ever. If Florida State were to give Norvell only three games, this once-proud football team becomes the Cleveland Browns of the Power 5. But if they do, go buy out Deion Sanders from Jackson State University.

If Florida State continues to be a perpetual grease fire in the aftermath of Jimbo Fisher bailing on the program, then Florida State might as well be entertaining with Prime Time on the sidelines. He’d get it right because he knows the secret to success. We’re talking about the greatest cornerback in the history of football, who happens to be my favorite NFL player of all time here!

It’s a pipe dream, but you better believe some members of the Florida State fanbase are praying like this to happen. I mean, who saw Sanders leave the NFL Network for Barstool Sports and then be named the head coach of an HBCU school in Mississippi? This is 2020 after, so like Kevin Garnett told us over 12 years ago, “Anything is possible!”

Norvell may be allowed to coach Florida State on Saturday, but there’s no guarantee he’ll win.
