Dwyane Wade won’t be rooting for his banana boat brother in the Finals

The 2020 NBA Finals are set, with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers taking on Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat. There is no more conflicting matchup for recently-retired NBA superstar and future Hall of Famer Dwayne Wade, who now has to choose between his best friend and the team he spent nearly his entire career with. Wade even won titles with James in South Beach, which makes this NBA Finals even more confusing.

Don’t get it twist, though, as Wade is as loyal as they come, but not to his friend. Despite all that James and Wade have been through, D-Wade is siding with the Miami Heat.

Wade gets to root for whoever he damn well pleases

If anyone understands, it’s James. The modern NBA so often takes stars away from the cities they’ve called home. Therefore, it’s tough to become attached to any one franchise, but Wade in Miami is a rare exception. Disregarding a late-career voyage to Chicago and then Cleveland, Wade is known for his Miami lineage. His No. 3 is iconic in South Beach, and he was the centerpiece to three NBA Championships, despite LeBron’s presence on two of those teams. There was no Big 3 without Wade, because he had to take a backseat to convince LeBron and Chris Bosh to come in the first place.

For that, he gets to root for whoever he damn well chooses, even if it upsets Lakers fans who were hoping he’d jump ship. Sorry, Magic Johnson.
