The Kentucky-Louisville rivalry added another chapter after Chris Mack’s comments

The two longtime rivals are having a tough time scheduling a matchup in 2020 after their original Dec. 12 tilt was canceled due to, as Mack stated, Kentucky’s pettiness. Of course, that’s not the entire story, but Mack is fed up with Louisville and UK fans considering him the main culprit for the two teams’ inability to schedule a game this year. Per Mack, it’s all Calipari’s fault.

The good news is Mack is willing to bend to Calipari’s will, even if he’s being sarcastic. Kentucky is the bigger school in this scenario, so it benefits Louisville to do whatever necessary to keep the rivalry intact.

“I keep getting asked, ‘Coach, are we playing the game?’ Are you scared? Are you a chicken? You won’t play Kentucky?'” Mack said in the video. “As for the UK series, here’s the thing: I want to do what’s most convenient for John and his program.”

Louisville and Kentucky must find a way to play

By the looks of it, college basketball will happen in 2020 in some form. Even if fans aren’t allowed to attend, Louisville vs Kentucky is a staple in the Bluegrass State. Fans wouldn’t forgive either program for taking that from us in 2020.

“I don’t want to stand in the way of college basketball’s best rivalry. Whatever is most convenient for Coach Cal, we’ll do it,” Mack said.

Mack knows Louisville’s place in this rivalry. Kentucky is a blue blood for a reason, and adding them to the Cardinals’ schedule on his terms isn’t realistic. Louisville is nothing to scoff at itself, but Calipari has built an absurd program in Lexington, continuously pumping out first-round picks every season. They’re on a different level than any school outside of Durham, NC.

To his credit, Calipari did respond, seemingly giving Mack a date that would work with his program.

For the sake of college basketball as a whole, these two programs need to figure out a way to make this work.
