Contenders and pretenders are starting to be identified in the NFL. Here are four matchups to keep a close eye on in Week 4.

Three weeks of the 2020 NFL regular season have come and gone and we’re starting to see genuine separation between contenders and pretenders. Any team looking to change their outlook is starting to run out of time.

That makes Week 4 a potential inflection point for quite a few teams around the league. It’s a little too early to call anything a must-win, but a few franchises are already feeling that kind of pressure. That could lead to erratic results this weekend.

As usual, the league gives us some really intriguing storylines to watch this week. Keep a particularly close eye on these five match-ups.

5. Vikings desperation against Texans despair

Both Minnesota and Houston entered the season with legitimate playoff aspirations. The fact that both are off to 0-3 starts is proof of just how unpredictable the NFL can be.

The Texans can at least tell themselves that they are only winless because they’ve played three really good opponents. There’s no shame in losing to the Chiefs, Ravens, or Steelers.

The Vikings have also played a pretty tough schedule. Their three losses came against the Packers, Colts, and Titans. The quality of the three losses isn’t doing anything to ease the angst in Minnesota.

Both teams should come out and do everything they can to salvage their respective seasons on Sunday. Keep a close eye on how many chances both quarterbacks take in this game. Deshaun Watson is certainly better than Kirk Cousins, but he doesn’t have the surrounding talent that Minnesota boasts at their skill positions. This likely becomes an elimination game for the team that drops to 0-4.
