Tatis, Jr. became the youngest Padres player to hit a postseason home run

Padres manager Jayce Tingler admitted to being a Kansas City Chiefs fan on ESPN’s Game 2 broadcast of San Diego vs. St. Louis. In that interview, which was filmed live while the Padres were down 4-0, Tingler said he thought his team had a few “Patrick Mahomes” who could supply some much-needed energy just when the opposing team got a little too comfortable. No, Tingler does not have ESP.

The Padres greatest star, Fernando Tatis, Jr., took out his frustration on San Diego’s deficit on the baseball. Tatis hit a three-run bomb to left field, which left the ballpark in a hurry.

Tatis, Jr. evidently got the Padres dugout hyped up, and gave them hope at the same time. One of the more underrated storylines this season has been Tatis, Jr.’s impact on high-priced free agent acquisition Manny Machado. The two teammates hit back-to-back in the lineup, giving the potential to do, well, this to any team that dares pitch to both of them in the same inning.

Goodbye, baseball.

In the sixth inning, we’ve got a new ballgame. Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina provided the Cardinals with an early advantage that seemed insurmountable. In many ways, the Padres got in their own way by leaving runners on base, while Kolten Wong extended the Cardinals’ lead.

With their newfound confidence, the Padres just became a scary out for the remainder of this game, and perhaps beyond.
