2020 NFL power rankings, Week 5: Browns explode, Jets implode
The Rams staged a valiant comeback at Buffalo last Sunday only to fall short in the closing moments. Now the club returned home to take on the struggling Giants. Sean McVay’ club managed a mere 240 total yards and got 55 of that via a touchdown connection from Jared Goff to Cooper Kupp in the fourth quarter. The real difference was a defensive unit that sacked New York quarterback Daniel Jones five times and limited him to 190 passing yards.
After their Week 1 at Jacksonville, Indianapolis dispatched of the Vikings and Jets by a combined 64-18 score. Now the team headed to Chicago for the first time since 2012 and Matt Eberflus’ defense continued its solid play. Colts’ defenders limited the Bears to 28 yards on the ground and 269 total yards in winning a third straight game. After allowing 27 points to the Jaguars in the opening week loss, Frank Reich’s club has allowed a combined 29 points.
Sean Payton’s team was hoping to avoid a third straight loss and it didn’t look good early as the Saints fell behind, 14-0, in the first quarter at Ford Field. But Drew Brees, who overcame an early interception, settled in and hit on 19-of-25 passes, including two scores. Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray led a running game that produced 164 yards. The Saints allowed only 90 yards rushing, sacked Matthew Stafford three times and picked him off once.
