An extra day between games seemed to have him in line to play Monday night, but Packers wide receiver Davante Adams has declared he will be out.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams missed last week’s game against the New Orleans Saints with a hamstring injury. An extra day before Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons, and a return to padded practice last Friday, created optimism he’d be able to return in Week 4.

But, it was not to be. On Monday morning, according to Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press Gazette, Adams tweeted (since deleted) that he will miss Monday night’s game against the Falcons.

Adams didn’t seem to be be dealing with too bad an injury. It appeared the Packers kept him out for the rest of Week 2 after he was injured out of caution more than anythin, then he missed Week 3.

In any case, Adams didn’t appear thrilled with the idea of missing a second straight game.

“Sorry fans and friends I wont be on the field tonight. I’ve done everything I need to do and proved Im ready but I guess I don’t know my body as well as others. Good luck out there my boys,” Adams wrote.

Packers taking extra caution with Davante Adams

The Packers are favored to beat the Falcons and go to 4-0 on the season, with a bye coming in Week 5. No. 2 wide receiver Allen Lazard had a breakout performance with Adams out against the Saints, then it was revealed he played through a core muscle injury in the game.

After surgery last week, Lazard is out indefinitely. So the wide receiver ranks for Aaron Rodgers are getting thin quickly. On Monday night it’ll be Marquez Valdes-Scantling and a bunch of unknowns against Atlanta.

The Packers should have an eye on winning the NFC North again, and ultimately going to the Super Bowl. They can’t reach those goals without Adams, so holding him out again with a bye week coming makes some sense. If the Falcons manage to pull the upset Monday night, with Adams seeming to suggest he was healthy enough to play but was overruled, then there will be questions.
