A returning tight end will have settled plenty of Week 4 fantasy matchups.

Four weeks into the NFL season teams are continuing to score at an historic rate, which is excellent news for fantasy owners.

A total of 3,233 points have been scored so far, with that tally the most through the first four weeks of a season in NFL history, and that is despite the game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans being postponed.

In addition to featuring a deluge of points, Week 4 also saw a stunning return by a superstar at tight end. It is a position that lacks depth in fantasy football, but an outstanding performance by the player most consider the best tight end in the NFL will have settled a lot of matchups.

Meanwhile one of the highest-paid running backs in the NFL finally kick-started his season with a display that propelled the Cincinnati Bengals and likely a plethora of fantasy teams to victory.

It was a huge week for wide receivers in a memorable shootout between the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys, with an exciting rookie and an established star among those to stand out.

Here we reflect on some of the best fantasy performances from Week 4 and analyze what they mean going forward as the NFL season enters its second quarter.

George Kittle – San Francisco 49ers

Kittle returned after missing two games with a knee sprain and a bone bruise and demonstrated his value to the 49ers and fantasy players alike with a monstrous performance on Sunday Night Football.

Though his efforts were not enough to prevent the Niners from slipping to a surprise 25-20 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles, Kittle will have settled many a fantasy matchup after hauling in 15 catches for 183 yards and a touchdown. Adding a carry for eight yards for good measure, Kittle finished Sunday with a massive 40.1 fantasy points in PPR leagues.

As the clear focal point of an offense that can be significantly more explosive than it was in Week 4 with Nick Mullens at the helm, a healthy Kittle is TE1 in all fantasy formats and should have the chance to put up another big day when the 49ers host the Miami Dolphins in Week 5.

The 49ers will hope to get Jimmy Garoppolo back from his high ankle sprain for what is a pivotal encounter as San Francisco looks to rebound and get to 3-2. Regardless of who is at quarterback, Kittle will be involved early and often, but his ceiling is significantly higher with the 49ers’ starting QB under center.
