Clemson is the No. 1 team in the nation with two Heisman candidates but the Tigers aren’t perfect.
Pretty much everything has gone right for Clemson the last few years, but Dabo Swinney‘s Tigers aren’t the juggernaut you may think they are.
Sure, they have a football-throwing-God in Trevor Lawrence with the magnificent flow and future shampoo commercials in his future. And sure they have Travis Etienne who has scored in a record 39 games in his career and could be the most electrifying player with the ball in his hands in college football. And sure there have some freshmen phenoms like Bryan Bresee, Myles Murhpy and D.J. Uiagalelei already making their impact felt and waiting in the wings to be the next Clemson superstars.
But, Clemson can’t kick a field goal.

For whatever reason, Clemson has attempted three B.T. Potter field goals vs. Miami and all three have been blocked, including one that was returned for a touchdown at the end of the first half that gave the Hurricanes a jolt of momentum.
The good thing for Clemson is they are so much better offensively and defensively than anyone they’ve played, that it hasn’t mattered. And sure, this is a really fluky thing to happen to a special teams unit, but it’ll give Swinney something to fume about the coming week.
For real, this could be an issue when they play good teams like Notre Dame next month, who looks legit so far this year, and in the College Football Playoff. For years, Alabama was dominant but had issues with kicking field goals which nearly gave Nick Saban an ulcer. I don’t think Clemson’s kicking woes will be a lingering issue, but it’s something to be aware of moving forward.
