Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney had some unique motivational tactics for his Tigers team ahead of their showdown with the Miami Hurricanes.
The AP voters think Clemson football is the No. 1 team in the nation, but apparently, Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney doesn’t share that opinion.
Appearing on College GameDay, Swinney provided some motivation for his Tigers ahead of Saturday night’s game against No. 7 Miami when he said he doesn’t know if they’re a top 10 team.

Dabo Swinney is just trying to motivate Clemson
“I think every time we step on the field, it’s a challenge … every game is the biggest game of the year, period,” Swinney said during Saturday’s appearance on College GameDay. “That’s just how we look at it. That’s why we have those streaks. You know, we don’t get caught up who knows who’s what right now. Go back and check the last however many we don’t know if we’re a top 10 team.
“There are a lot of top 10 teams at the end of the year that aren’t even ranked. We don’t know who we are. We’re just trying to prove it each week.”
No one actually believes that Swinney actually believes that Clemson isn’t a top-10 team, or that they aren’t the No. 1 team. If you want to say they haven’t even played their best game yet, then, sure, yeah, that fits, but there’s no way Swinney thinks this team isn’t one of the 10 best in the nation.
Clemson looks to back up their No. 1 ranking on Saturday night when they host D’Eriq King and the resurgent Hurricanes on ABC.
