D’Eriq King took his talents to South Beach, but there’s only one LeBron James
David Pollack’s questionable comparison will hopefully last only one week, for his sake. King and the Miami Hurricanes look borderline unstoppable offensively, but they’re going up against a juggernaut on Saturday night in the Clemson Tigers. Death Valley is where pretenders go to die, and even should King ball out in primetime the oddsmakers suggest Miami could very well lose. Clemson is Clemson. They’re the presumptive favorites to win the College Football Playoff for a reason.
Even a loss wouldn’t discount King’s accomplishments so far. He’s brought Miami back to ACC contention, buying into Manny Diaz’s message the entire way. It’s amazing what happens when a capable players leaves Dana Holgorsen’s grasp.
David Pollack really thinks King is similar to LeBron
“Listen, when you get a free agent like D’Eriq King — it changes your whole program,” Pollack said. “It makes everyone else fall into place. You’ve seen that with the whole team. It’s like LeBron James. It really is an equal comparison. He comes in now and everybody gets that opportunity. He spreads that ball around; nobody has to feel like they’re doing too much.”
King’s ability outside of the pocket is what gets him on highlight reels across the country. But as a passer, he’s completed an astounding 67 percent of his throws on the season. Miami’s offense is a well-oiled machine with King as the captain. He deserves all the Heisman talk he’s receiving and then some.
All of this aside, no athlete is LeBron James except for…LeBron James. The man is on the verge of leading three separate franchises to NBA Titles. King is leading Miami to being a touchdown underdog against Clemson.
We love the hype, but let’s be realistic.
