Dak Prescott suffered a traumatic ankle injury against the Giants

The Cowboys season may be in the balance after Prescott went down with what looked to be a gruesome ankle injury. Prescott was playing on a contract year, meaning his financial future will be dramatically impacted thanks to the Cowboys unwillingness to pay him long-term.

Despite the Cowboys pettiness, Dallas must now move forward with Andy Dalton, who they signed this offseason for this very scenario. Dalton is an established veteran in this league, and his time with the formerly contending Cincinnati Bengals could pay dividends should the Cowboys in the terrible NFC East.

Do the Cowboys stand a chance with Dalton at QB?

The Cowboys signed Dalton to a discount due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dalton is from the Dallas area and chose to sign closer to home for one season rather than seek out a full-time starting job amid uncertainty.

In his NFL career, Dalton has over 30,000 passing yards and 200 touchdowns. Towards the end of his tenure with the Bengals, the talent around him rapidly deteriorated. This explains a couple outliers of less-than-productive seasons before he signed with Dallas.

Dalton will be able to spread the ball around with the Cowboys, especially with the plethora of targets he has at his disposal. He is no Prescott, and doesn’t possess the kind of pocket presence the Cowboys were accustomed to in the Mississippi State product. But with Ezekiel Elliott, CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup and Amari Cooper available to him, he should prove capable.
