Dak Prescott suffers a gruesome ankle injury against Giants (Video)
The Cowboys have a slim one-point lead over the Giants, but Dak Prescott’s injury will overshadow the game’s result for Dallas.
The 2020 regular season hasn’t gone according to plan for the Cowboys. Dak Prescott’s gruesome ankle injury will only take Dallas’ season from bad to worse.
The Cowboys offensive was driving with a narrow 24-23 lead with 6:33 left in the third quarter when Prescott scrambled to the left. As he approached the first down marker he was caught by a Giants defender and his ankle appeared to bend in an unnatural manner on his way to the ground. Prescott was carted off the field in obvious pain while receiving a chorus of cheers from fans inside AT&T Stadium.
Cowboys fans shouldn’t expect any formal announcement about Prescott to come until after X-rays and other medical tests are conducted. It’s safe to assume that everyone inside the Dallas organization will be waiting on those results with bated breath. The injury certainly looked significant at the time of its occurrence, but nothing can be concluded with any certainty at the moment.
Jason Garrett, who drafted Dak and coached him until leaving Dallas this season, came over to check on him after it became apparent that the injury was serious.
Andy Dalton will get the first chance to fill Prescott’s shoes as the Cowboys’ starting quarterback. He helped polish off the drive Prescott started with a touchdown to give the Cowboys an eight-point lead over their division rivals. Dallas signed Dalton to upgrade their options behind their Pro Bowl signal-caller but did not want to be forced into playing him in this manner.
In the end, any hopes the Cowboys have of rescuing their 2020 campaign may have exited the field right along with Prescott on Sunday. It’s a cruel blow to a franchise that entered the season with high hopes of making a lengthy postseason run under new coach Mike McCarthy.
