Dabo Swinney shared some notes for the NFL’s New York teams when it comes to Trevor Lawrence in the event, the Jets or Giants get the right to draft the Clemson quarterback.

Trevor Lawrence has been a top NFL prospect since the day he stepped foot on the Clemson campus. Teams have been scouting him for years and the start of the 2020 NFL season has shed light on a few organizations that may be in a great position to draft Lawrence.

Both the New York Jets and New York Giants are off to 0-5 starts this year. That has the connections to Lawrence swirling and even Dabo Swinney linked his quarterback to one of those two teams.

“When he gets to New York or wherever y’all think he’s going, he can spike the ball and go do whatever he wants to do. Swinney said during Tuesday’s meeting with the media, via The Athletic’s Grave Raynor. But not here.”

Dabo Swinney hyping up Trevor Lawrence

The above quote about Lawerence spiking the ball is one of the few times you will see Swinney getting on his quarterback about something negative. Instead, he likes to hype up his star player and NFL teams should be listening.

Swinney famously said teams would be foolish to pass on Deshaun Watson back in the 2017 NFL Draft. He fell to the Houston Texans at No. 12 overall and the Chicago Bears are one team that would like a do-over.

Passing on Lawrence in 2021 may end up making more teams look like they missed out, or need new scouting departments.

Nothing Lawrence has done in three years has tanked his value. As Swinney says, he has all the physical attributes teams are looking for. Lawrence also showed off his leadership abilities this summer away from the field when it came to social justice and to getting football back in 2020.

Coaches are supposed to talk up their players. In this scenario, Swinney is just being honest. It is up to NFL teams to listen and potentially start the tank train for the 2021 NFL Draft.
