The Rams should be on upset alert in San Francisco

The good news for the Los Angeles Rams is that they are 4-1. The part of that equation that will raise some skepticism is that all four of those wins have come against the NFC East, which is unquestionably the NFL’s worst division in 2020.

The one loss for Los Angeles came in Week 3 when they fell behind against the Bills before mounting a huge comeback that fell just short. That game does demonstrate that the Rams can play with the best but they are set for a unique challenge when they begin the NFC West portion of their schedule on Sunday night against the 49ers as three-point favorites.

San Francisco was blown out at home by the Miami Dolphins in Week 5 with the big question surrounding the health of Jimmy Garoppolo, who was benched at halftime of his return from a high-ankle sprain. The coaching staff told the broadcast team the move was designed to protect Garoppolo, who had limited mobility but played poorly to put the team in a big hole.

The 49ers now have a week to figure out their quarterback situation but the rest of their roster still has plenty of talent and healthy offensive weapons like Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle. Going on the road for a divisional game is never easy so this is one spot where the Rams have to be careful to avoid getting tripped up.
