Auburn football fans are wanting to fire Gus Malzahn over Twitter yet again.

Gus Malzahn is not in good graces with Auburn football fans after the team’s latest loss.

The Auburn Tigers fell to 2-2 on the season by losing to the 1-2 South Carolina Gamecocks on the road by eight points. Though Williams-Brice Stadium remains one of the toughest places to play in the country, War Eagle Nation cannot be pleased with what it has seen out of its head coach and its second-year starting quarterback Bo Nix. Malzahn is back on the hot seat, according to Twitter.

How concerned should Auburn be about the status of the Gus Bus in 2020?

Though Auburn has a pair of wins over the Kentucky Wildcats and the Arkansas Razorbacks this season, there was a chance Auburn could’ve been 0-4 to start the season. Two egregious calls in favor of Auburn helped propel the Tigers to a Week 4 victory over the ‘Cats and most certainly over the Hogs in Week 6. Auburn was better than South Carolina and should have won, but sadly, did not.

Malzahn may be the second-longest tenured head coach in the SEC behind only Nick Saban with the Alabama Crimson Tide, but it’s starting to be more of the same for the Tigers under his leadership. They need everything to align for them schedule-wise to have any shot of winning the SEC West every four years or so. It’s great when it happens, but this is very much the in-between.

Malzahn has a $21 million buyout if the regents of Auburn University do look for their first head coach since hiring him away from Arkansas State back in 2013 to replace national championship-winning head coach Gene Chizik. Auburn could get someone great to replace Malzahn, but how sure are we his successor would be an improvement in the SEC head-coaching hierarchy?

This may not be Auburn’s year, but it feels like the program is stuck being the equivalent of 8-4 most years under Malzahn. At best, the Tigers can go 10-2, maybe 11-1 and get to the SEC Championship game if they stun the Crimson Tide in the Iron Bowl. Auburn may show patience in seeing how the rest of the year plays out, but War Eagle Nation is running out of it for sure.

Could this really be the last year Malzahn coaches the Tigers down on The Plains?
