1. George Edwards

Another defensive coordinator option is even closer to home for the Cowboys. Former Vikings DC George Edwards is currently a Senior Defensive Assistant with the team.

Edwards had a successful stint in Minnesota that ended after the 2019 season. His squad ranked in the top 10 of NFL defenses in all but one of his seasons with the Vikings.

The argument against Edwards is knowing he has played a role in developing the defense that is currently underachieving. At the same time, promoting Edwards would be an opportunity for McCarthy to make a change without creating too much upheaval.
