Once again, the refs managed to mess this up for Buffalo

Yes, the Kansas City Chiefs won 26-17 against the Buffalo Bills. Of course, Josh Allen threw a late interception that eventually cemented the deal for Patrick Mahomes and Co. However, the real story is on the play slightly earlier in the game that’s could have given Buffalo a better chance at victory.

On Kansas City’s final drive, Mahomes would connect with Byron Pringle on 3rd-and-12 for a 37-yard gain. It would eventually lead to a 30-yard field goal from Harrison Butker to give the Chiefs a nine-point lead with just under two minutes remaining.

That’s what most fans saw.

If you look close in the video below, the Chiefs offensive linemen are seen leaving the line of scrimmage. Despite Mahomes having to scramble, once an offensive lineman passes the line, they are recorded as ineligible, thus negating the play with a penalty.

If you count, there’s at least two Chiefs linemen well past the line of scrimmage and one right on it. The first one should have gained a flag. The second one should have shown the refs that there was at least one player well past the line, leading to a penalty.

Was there a flag thrown? Nope. Another ref bites the dust and misses the call.

Should the flag have been thrown, the Bills could have made a stop, received the ball with roughly four minutes left on the clock. Instead, the penalty was missed, the kick was up and Allen will think “what if” in a game he could have been a hero.

Inconsistent plays by referees have been a problem all season long, but a play between two playoff contenders for future seeding might be downright the worst. Expect Bills fans and the NFL officiating committee to look into this one later this week.

Next. It took NFL refs five minutes to overturn the worst call ever in 49ers-Rams (Video). dark
