29. Mitchell Trubisky goes to San Francisco to compete with Jimmy Garoppolo

Trubisky’s career with the Bears effectively ended the moment Chicago elected to trade for Nick Foles. His ugly start to the 2020 season made changing quarterbacks easy on Matt Nagy and his staff. Now it’s time for Trubisky to get a fresh start somewhere else.

He’d love to find a starting gig, but there won’t be a team interested in handing him the keys to their offense after his ugly career with the Bears. Like Fitzpatrick, Trubisky also needs to be in the market for a high-end backup job.

Unlike Fitzpatrick, Trubisky should be targeting a place where the starting quarterback might lose his grip on the job. San Francisco fits that description given all of Jimmy Garoppolo’s struggles this season. Trubisky would be wise to sign a one-year deal with the 49ers to see if he can displace the incumbent.

Kyle Shanahan’s offensive system also fits Trubisky’s skill set perfectly. He’s a mobile quarterback who arguably is at his best when he’s given the freedom to move around. Shanahan could unlock Trubisky’s potential by simplifying his reads down the field. Keep a close eye on what San Francisco does at quarterback this offseason.
