2021 NFL Free Agency predictions: Quarterbacks will be on the move
27. Jacoby Brissett goes to Pittsburgh to back up Big Ben
The Steelers found out just how rough life without Ben Roethlisberger can be back in 2019. Pittsburgh should have invested more in a backup quarterback in 2020 as a result. Look for the franchise to correct their error in 2021.
Brissett has the natural ability to be a starter for a team without legitimate Super Bowl aspirations. That makes him perfectly suited to be a backup for a franchise that does have a legitimate chance to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
Brissett will also see moving to Pittsburgh as an opportunity to take over for Roethlisberger when he finally retires. That’s probably a misread on his part, but it’s something his representatives will try to sell to him as he considers moving to the Steelers.
The Steelers aren’t going to hand out a massive contract to a backup, but Brissett should be able to get two or three seasons worth of decent money from the franchise. His arrival in the Steel City should drastically raise this team’s floor for the next few years.
